Rumors have circulated for the past week that pop singer George Michael is at death's door in an Austrian hospital. Doctors have said the situation is grim, but spokespersons are denying his illness is that grave. The Telegraph is reporting now that Michael's family have gathered by his bedside to hold a vigil for the ill singer.
The singer, who is being treated in hospital in Vienna, Austria, is said to be responding to treatment and "slowly improving".
He had been joined by his 75-year-old father Kyriacos Panayiotou, who is known as Jack Panos, as well as sisters Melanie, 49 and Yioda, 53.
His former boyfriend, art dealer Kenny Goss, is also due to join the group in the Austrian capital shortly.
The 48-year-old star's boyfriend, hair stylist Fadi Fawaz, has kept a bedside vigil since the singer fell ill on Monday of last week.
Michael was diagnosed with a severe case of "community acquired pneumonia." Earlier reports said the openly gay singer was in critical condition and was in a giant machine bed to help his lungs get oxygen. Doctors say the illness is not HIV related. Michael has canceled the rest of his tour.
I'll always have a soft spot for George Michael. The first time I had gay sex, his album Faith served as the backdrop music.
