I'll be part of a panel discussion next Friday, November 11, at the DC LGBT Center on the topic What It Means to be Gay In America. The event will showcase photographer Scott Pasfield's new book, Gay In America. I've already seen the book and, let me tell you, it's stunning. Everyone who's come over to our house automatically picks it up and becomes quickly immersed in the stories and photos that span each and every state in the union.

Other panelists include:

Moderator:
Sean Bugg - co-editor and publisher of Metroweekly
Host:
Scott Pasfield
Panelists:
Bil Browning - Editor and co-founder of Bilerico Project
Lt. Dan Choi - Activist and DADT repeal champion
Joey DiGulielmo - Features and Multimedia Editor of the Washington Blade
Jamie McGonnigal - Founder of Talk About Equality
Michael Christopher - Activist and creator of Living the Life comics
Joe Sudbay - AmericaBlogGay editor

The event starts at 6pm and runs till 8pm. Publicity poster with sample images from the book is after the break.

Bil, the book is fantastic...the love of my life is featured, and that would be enough for me, but being able to see all the wonderful people that Scott photographed and interviewed is uplifting.

We are looking forward to Scott's visit to Connecticut later this month.

So, the panel is "Gay in America"? Not LGBT? Specifically, not Transgender? I see. We suffer more discrimination. ENDA has yet to be passed in most States. Trans people are murdered almost every week. 40 -50% at least attempt suicide. I could go on and on. But you glory in the light. Celebrate your victories. I know you'll come back for us. Right? As Sylvia Rivera said when she was left out. "Back of the bus? We're not even on the back bumper". That's ok. The Transgender Community will take care of itself, thank you very much.

No, it's Gay In America - the book is all photos of gay men from every state in the nation. It's got nothing about trans folk to it since that wasn't the topic of the photography series. Save the moralizing for something that would actually help trans folk instead of a simple photography coffeetable book.

Looks great. :) Nice to see my hero, Lt. Choi, front and center! I love you Lt. Choi!

Thank you Bil - it's a shame we can't celebrate each others' successes...when the Transgender in America book comes out, I'll have nothing but nice things to say about it.

This trans woman isn't going to rain on your parade. There will always be stuff such as this that doesn't need to include trans and I'm not sure why anyone would be miffed over it.
