Most of the details about the circumstances of Tyler Clementi's suicide after his roommate spied on him and another man having an intimate moment have been gleaned from court filings since his parents have refused all media interviews. Clementi's family has now started speaking out to promote an anti-bullying organization they founded following their son's death.

The roommate, Dharun Ravi, used a webcam to spy on the duo and allowed others to also watch and denigrate his roommate. Ravi recently refused a plea deal that would have allowed him to stay out of prison and avoid extradition; Ravi is an Indian national.
