RQS_POSTER.jpg From February 23 to March 4, 2012, for the fourth consecutive year, Radical Queer Semaine will host a week of events on gender and sexuality and occupy a main space for ten days free from heterosexism and oppression.

Below you will see a lists of the largest events being hosted. The complete program is available online and includes more than 30 workshops on various topics such as sex work, intersexuality, body image, harm reduction, disability activism, HIV/AIDS, and solidarity with people of colour in the queer community.

Aside from the workshops there will be performances, concerts, debates, parties, film screenings, an art exhibit, direct action, collective cooking, knowledge- and skill-share, and lots more!

The majority of events will take place at Sissy Space X (SSPX) 2229 Sainte-Catherine East, near metro Papineau in Montreal.

The major events include:

Queer In/justice: Opening panel on criminalization, 18h30, at 2229 Sainte-Catherine East, with panelists from the AQPSUD, COCQ-sida, ASTTeQ, and Arc-en-Ciel d'Afrique.

X POSE Art exhibit: opening on February 24 from 7pm-11pm at the FRESH PAINT gallery, 180 Sainte-Catherine East. The exhibit includes works from over 30 artists including collections from AIDS ACTION NOW!, Certain Days, the Prisoner Correspondence Project, and Queers Made This. The focus of the show is on poster arts, murals and installations. From February 22 to March 17, 2012 (the space is open to the public from 4pm-7pm on Wednesdays and 1pm-7pm from Thursday to Saturday).

GLOREEBOX: (Drugstore Café- 1366 Sainte-Catherine East - Friday February 24 doors open at 9 :30pm), 50% of profits go to the Lettres en couleur project (see below). With Djs Plastik Patrik, Frigid, Maxime Armstrong, Like the Wolf et JONNBNNRCK.

HOMOSOUNDS: Live Music Night, Wednesday February 29 (Coop Katacombes, 1635 St-Laurent, 5-8$ suggested contribution. With: Frank et Sid, Sami Basbous, Echo Beach, and Joseph Gabereau.

MONSTER BALL: (Saturday March 3, doors open at 10pm) Djs, dancing and debauchery, this is a massive closing party not to be missed!

And of course the folks at RQS keep it real with a handful of International solidarity projects running in conjunction with the festival.

These include the Lettre en Couleur project, a solidarity project in conjunction with an Algerian LGBT collective, Abu Nawas, that aims to send queer-themed books (in French, English, or Arabic) to our comrades in Algeria where queer-themed literature is not permitted.

The books can be left at the RQS Main Space or at the Librairie Raffin (6330, rue St-Hubert) - partner of the project that will sell a selection of queer books for the project at -35% until March 2012. Part of the profits from the Monster Ball will also be given to the Montreal organisation Arc-en-Ciel d'Afrique for their projects in support of LGBT people of African and Caribbean origin.
