"Let me tell you something you already know. David's upcoming reelection campaign is going to be one of the hardest-fought congressional campaigns in the entire country. National Republicans are targeting this seat and have already begun pummeling David with false attacks. They have even promoted David's opponent, an anti-choice, pro-corporate tax cut, pro-Romney Republican as one of their top recruits. Combine that with a wealthy so-called Democrat who is hell-bent on destroying David, and we've got our work cut out for us."
-- Openly gay Rhode Island Democrat Congressman David Cicilline's campaign manager, Eric Hyers, in an e-mail to supporters. Cicilline's campaign is facing an uphill battle; the scandal plagued former Providence mayor has a 22% favorability rating and recent polls show him down 15% against his Republican opponent, Former Superintendent of the State Police Brendan Doherty. Cicillini maintains a small lead over his primary opponent.
