Let's start off with an open thread this morning, Projectors.
The political story of the week has been the Supreme Court case to decide whether or not the individual mandate is constitutional. The mandate requires all Americans to purchase health insurance.
Personally, I don't think it is. The government is requiring me to purchase something from a company. This doesn't happen in any other area. I don't think they have that right. If they'd like to tax me and give me single payer government run health insurance, that's a different story - no one is making a profit off of my health.
Several people point to liability insurance for driving a car, but that's an entirely different beast. I can choose not to drive - and therefore not pay for the insurance. The only way to escape the individual mandate is to die.
So what do you think? Is the mandate constitutional or will it get struck down?
