Today's Saturday open thread should provide some interesting responses...

bigstock-Getting-Started--colorful-mot-28914236.jpgHow did you get your start in LGBT activism? There's all sorts of ways you can be an activist. Some of you have marched in protests, others in pride parades. Some of you have been arrested, others have quietly written letters, sent e-mails, or lobbied government officials. No matter how you choose to fight for LGBT rights, what gave you your start?

What was your first action you took on our community's behalf and what sparked your deed?

For me it all started when Bill Clinton's campaign bus tour rolled into Evansville, Indiana. My first bit of activism was cajoling and catcalling the future president from the crowd to "talk about AIDS." I flung myself into activism after that and the rest, as they say, is history. If you'd like the longer story, check out my post from early last year, "Tipper Gore & the Accidental Activist."
