Protect All NC Families has released it's final e-mail message to supporters as voters head to the polls today to decide whether or not to ratify an amendment to ban same-sex marriages and civil unions. We'll be updating the site tonight as the results roll in.
Since this is a primary election, the Republican bigots in the legislature decided to hold it now since Democrats are likely to stay home since President Obama is unopposed. It's more important than ever now to step and cast your vote since turnout will be low. We actually have a chance to win this if we can motivate our supporters and get out the vote!
Beginning right now, people in North Carolina are heading to the polls in the pre-dawn darkness to cast their ballot.
We have the unique opportunity to protect all children and families, gay and straight, at the ballot box by voting against Amendment One. This is a defining moment for North Carolina and for the hundreds of thousands of people who will be harmed if the amendment passes.
We know that the amendment has far reaching, unintended consequences that could harm your friends, your neighbors and even your loved ones. We all understand that we must defeat the amendment before it harms anyone. As President Clinton said in his statement in opposition to Amendment One, "The real effect of the law will be to hurt families and drive away jobs. North Carolina can do better."
Your work to get us to this point has been nothing short of amazing. In the remaining hours I ask that you leave no stone unturned. We have a unique opportunity to defeat the amendment today and protect all North Carolina families.
We are proud of the unprecedented coalition that has formed against Amendment One with groups ranging from the NC-NAACP to the Libertarian Party issuing vocal opposition. We are honored to stand with the more than 400 clergy from every region of the state who have said that they, "stand in moral opposition to the harms Amendment One would cause North Carolina's children and families."
