My ongoing blog on the London Olympics, originally posted at Outsports.com and SBNation. This story is about IOC president Jacques Rogge and how he has stepped in it by declining to award the gold medal to the winner of the women's marathon. The race is scheduled for August 5, so Rogge has five more days to realize that he ought to change his mind.
Here's some eyewitness history by me, as a former marathoner, on why the symbols in sports are so vital.
