Remember when Dan Savage made some casual remarks about how a bunch of stuff in the Bible is bullshit and Christians don't follow those rules anymore? You know, stuff like slavery, how to treat women, and whether or not it's okay to marry your daughter to her rapist? Some high school students walked out claiming he was "bullying" them based off their religious beliefs.
Then NOM's Brian Brown jumped in to further demonize Savage as a religious bigot and so on and so forth. Brown challenged Savage to a debate - which was accepted. Since Brown had told Savage to name the time and place, Savage picked his dining room table so Brown would actually have to break bread with some of the people he regularly castigates and denigrates.
New York Times religion reporter Mark Oppenheimer (who also wrote last year's profile of me for my Salvation Army activism) was picked as the moderator. The duo met a couple of weeks ago for the big showdown and the video of the conversation was released today.
Of course, NOM has put up a website to tout the debate that's still chock full of half-truths and outright lies. I'm guessing the brown dog didn't learn any new tricks about how to be a real loving Christian that speaks honestly.
The video is after the break.
