Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) released an "It Gets Better" video Friday, Sept. 28. Schiff is a co-sponsor of several important pieces of legislation to curtail harassment, end inequalities, and educate students about bullying, including the the Tyler Clementi Higher Education Anti-Harassment Act of 2011 (H.R. 1048) that requires schools to report on their harassment policies and programs, as well as the Student Nondiscrimination Act (H.R. 998), and the Safe Schools Improvement Act (H.R. 1648).
In the video, Schiff says: "Know that regardless of how it might feel, there are people that care about you. There is a bright welcoming future ahead of you. So don't forget - it gets better. It really does." He also promotes the LA-based Trevor Project with its free suicide prevention helpline: 866-488-7386. The It Gets Better Project is an Internet-based anti-bullying and suicide prevention project.
