I'm all for getting the vote out and seeing every American exercise his or her right to vote. I want to see President Obama reelected. And one company many gay men know very well wants to contribute in the effort to elect more LGBT-friendly politicians this coming November. Joel Simkhai, founder and CEO of Grindr, has revealed the company's new social effort to mobilize gay men for this coming election. It is called 'Grindr for Equality.' Now user of Grindr can be made aware of issues affecting LGBT folk in their state while looking for someone to hook up with.

A lot of gay guys I know use this app or know other gay guys who use it and seeing as upwards of 1.5 million people - according to Grindr - use the app. Perhaps this plan might work. Though it may be annoying at first for many men who log on, looking to get laid, and instead find a political message informing them about an important issue, it'll still help influence many men, who otherwise may not care about politics, into having their voice heard this November. Now that you've had your fun with Grindr, here are some news you need to know:

• Before the 49rs became the first NFL team to make an It Gets Better video, Brendon Ayanbadejo, a linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens, made a video for Marylanders for Marriage Equality. A year after, one Maryland state delegate has expressed his disgust for the football players support for marriage equality.


• Sad news from abroad. It has been reported that a gay teenager has been allegedly murdered by his father and uncle when they found out about his sexuality. The family then tried to cover it up.


• The Democratic Party finally openly accepts the issue of LGBT rights as a good cause for them to fight for. At the DNCC many members of the party mentioned the struggle for marriage equality and gay rights issues. The country is indeed moving forward.


• I'm pretty sure this is the first time a Hollywood children's movie mentions someone who's gay. Paranorman features a gay character who isn't even stereotypically gay. Good for them!


• Being sexually harassed at work is awful. Being fired after having been sexually harassed by your superior is even worse. A doctoral student at Columbia experienced all that. Here's his story.


• Ira Sach's new film Keep the Lights On chronicles a gay couples 10 year relationship in New York City during the turn of this century. Watch the trailer and tell me what you think!


• And my favorite news organization, The Onion, explains the true intentions of the hedonistic Democratic Party and its evil leader Obama. He must be stopped!


• With this last post, my internship comes to an end. I enjoyed working with Bil and James here at The Bilerico Project. I hope you all enjoyed my posts. Thanks for reading my little news snippets.
