Evita_poster-movie.jpgThis week's post comes as a request from my partner, David. A couple weeks ago, the film version of Evita was on TV. It is David's favorite musical and I am certainly not going to stop him. Since then, he has been playing the soundtrack non-stop.

This is not a new thing. See my previous sing-off post for "Don't Cry for Me Argentina." We love us some Evita.

The reason "A New Argentina" is this weeks selection has more to do with being nestled between the Republican and Democratic conventions than an actual deep love for the song. There are by far better numbers in the show and ones more widely covered, but when I am a few glasses of wine into the evening and watching disgusting Republican after Republican speak, this is where my mind wanders.

Yup. My body's natural reaction to Republican talking points is to phase out and start hearing the voice of Patti LuPone.

And in this sing-off, Patti is the winner for me. The force in her voice sells it more than the others. It actually sounds political. Madonna's version feels - soft.

I'd like to see the revival, though from Ricky Martin's performance at the Tony's and listening to the cast recording, I'm not blown away.

As usual, check out the clips after the jump. Who do you think did it best?

If I missed anyone, give us the link in the comments.
