Right wing religious radical Bryan Fischer asserted that there can be no compromise or coexistence with LGBT people and that defeating the "homosexual agenda" can and should be the only goal of listeners to his radio show.

These latest words are nothing less than a call to arms to his followers. He is declaring that the struggle against (and hence for, as well) LGBT rights can only end in total victory or total defeat. I hesitate to dance on the ragged edge of Godwin's Law, but I can only imagine what Mr. Fischer and his ilk's ideal vision for our total defeat looks like.

Here is what he had to say on his radio program (courtesy of Think Progress:

We in America are gonna have to choose between the homosexual agenda and liberty, because we cannot have both. We have to choose between the homosexual agenda and freedom. We have to choose between the homosexual agenda and the Constitution, because we cannot have both. We have to choose between the homosexual agenda and the First Amendment, because we cannot have both. Ladies and gentlemen, I'm telling you, we have got to understand we cannot give an inch, we cannot give one centimeter, we cannot give one millimeter to the forces of homosexual activism. We cannot accommodate, we can't compromise, we can't find middle ground, they cannot be reasoned with, they cannot be compromised with, they cannot be dialogued with, they can only be defeated.

Over the years, as Mr. Fischer's rhetoric has grown increasingly inflammatory and perhaps even a bit disjointed, it has become tempting to dismiss him as a raving crackpot. But make no mistake, this is a madman with influence. As Think Progress points out in their coverage, a number of leading figures in the Republican Party have sought his radio program out. Including Reps. Steve King and Michelle Bachman, former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty, and the Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell.

Let that percolate in your minds as you check out what else you need to know today:

  • Michelle Backman's lesbian step-sister goes on the record about how painful Rep. Bachman's radically anti-LGBT positions have been for her personally, as well as about how the issue has divided a once loving family.
  • Business Insider rounds up 15 advertisements that reflect the changing face of how gay people are portrayed in advertising.
  • A young LGBT woman has partnered with GLAAD in asking President Obama and Governor Romney to wear purple on October 19th for Spirit Day
  • An Alabama judge has denied a second parent adoption to a lesbian couple married in California on the grounds that Alabama's law banning same-sex marriage forbids it.
  • Students at Catholic school in Indianapolis have thrown their support behind a young trans* man at their school after the school refused to acknowledge his correct identity.
  • The American Family Association is trying to breakup a Southern Poverty Law Center-driven school anti-bullying program over fears that it could advance "the gay agenda."
  • Calling out the Brazilian president on her lack of support for that nation's embattled LGBT community.
  • Honey Boo's gay "Uncle Poodle" talks about reality show notoriety, where his nickname came from, and being a gay redneck.
  • The Journal of Christian Nursing this month features an editorial arguing for greater compassion in the treatment of LGBT patients, although it does still call us out on our 'sinful behavior.'
  • Remember when the Tea Party was just about taxation? Well neither do the Tea Partiers in Omaha, who are busily working to overturn that city's new LGBT protections.
  • New Zealand researchers have identified the first genderqueer bird in that nation.
  • Far right-wing LGB Republican group GOProud has released their 2012 endorsements and it's not pretty.
  • Finally, Hank Green of the Vlogbrothers has a fabulous breakdown of sexual orientation and gender identity that shouldn't be missed:
