Thumbnail image for cambodia.gifAndrew Sullivan picked up on my laugh at Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen's awkward statement of support for LGBT people this week.

"There are gays and lesbians in every country, so there should be no discrimination against them just because of their destiny," he said. "Most of them are good people and are not doing alcohol, drugs or racing vehicles."

Two of his readers chimed in to acknowledge that the Prime Minister probably meant exactly what he said - and explained why.

From one reader:

I live in Cambodia, so I can understand what Hun Sen means by racing vehicles. Motor accidents are the leading cause of death here, and drivers must routinely look out for assholes with money driving Land Rovers and black Lexuses who WILL drive on either side of the road run motorcycles and bicycles out of their way, sometimes hitting them or forcing them to ditch.

Another goes on to highlight recent cases of "princelings" who've literally gotten away with murder - including Hun Sen's nephew.
