Grindr has become such a staple of gay male life anymore that it's almost impossible to go to any bar or queer social event, hang out with friends, or go out to eat in the gayborhood, without spotting someone on their phone looking for a hookup. That yellow glow lights up their face and they turn the phone slightly so they can look at the photos discreetly.
The downside is that everyone around you that's on the app also knows you're cruising for sex; it's not like the app is made for reading Bible verses. Of course, there's always the few that insist they're just there "for conversation." Here's a hint: try talking to the person across from you at the table or standing next to you at the edge of the dance floor. That's conversation; sending dick pictures is sexting.
So when ex-gay poster boy Matt Moore, a writer for the Christian Post who's loudly proclaimed that he's left the sinful homo lifestyle behind, needed a chat buddy, where's he going to go? Grindr, of course.
After activist Zinnia Jones reported that Moore was cruising for gay sex using a hookup app, the shamefaced bastard wrote in to say:
The grindr profile was really mine. I've been on it on and off for the last couple of weeks.
Like I told the guy who sent you the picture, I am wrong in having been on grindr. I haven't changed my views on homosexuality, the bible, etc.
Creating a grindr profile and talking to guys on it was major disobedience on my part....disobedience to Christ.
Disobedience to a loving and gracious God. Thankfully, I believe that He forgives me for this disobedience. I believe the blood of Christ covers this disobedience. And I won't be on grindr again....ever.
So, let's recap. A cute ex-gay guy has been exposed for doing what a large percentage of gay guys do now. He was cruising for sex on Grindr. Maybe if he was actually getting laid regularly, he wouldn't be so damn uptight. Or, if disobedience and punishment is your thing, there's always Scruff.
