Thumbnail image for Dan ChoiYesterday afternoon, Lt. Dan Choi, stood trial for protesting in front of the White House in November 2010 over Don't Ask Don't Tell.

He faced the possibility of paying a $5,000 fine or serving six months in prison for "failure to obey a lawful order" according to the US Park Police. In court, Dan was found guilty and fined $100. However, what was noted during the trial was Dan's erratic behavior.

It was reported in several news stories that Dan was belligerent, bizarre and emotional unstable. By the time the hearing was over, Dan was transported to a VA hospital.

Those of us who have followed Dan's story knows that he faced a similar breakdown back in 2010. Dan was admitted to the psychiatric ward at a VA hospital in Brockton, Massachusetts for a panic attack. After this current incident, I have to wonder about the overall mental health of Dan Choi.

His life has been a roller coaster ride for a few years now. I cannot imagine the stress and strain resting on his shoulders. However, are his closest friends clearly aware of his behavior? To be honest, it was scary and disheartening to read these articles about Dan's erratic actions. I truly hope he is getting the help he needs, because if he is not taking care of himself it could get worse.
