Violence.jpgHere's what you need to know today:

  • Tyanna Slobe of The Rocky Mountain Collegian does an excellent job of cutting to the heart of the "debate" around a six year old trans* girl who wants to use the girls' bathroom at school.
  • In a dramatic percent increase from pervious years, 338 LGBT people lost their lives to violence in Brazil last year. The Brazilian trans* community was especially hard hit.
  • The parents of Tyler Clementi are seeking an apology from NOM, after the anti-equality organization used their son's suicide to illustrate the dangers of being gay.
  • The local sheriff does not intend to investigate the death of gay, slain Clarksdale Mississippi mayoral candidate Marco McMillian as a hate crime.
  • Train and Carly Rae Jepsen have pulled out as performers for the Boy Scout Jamboree over the organization's anti-gay policies.
  • Sydney police are being accused of brutality in connection to an incident caught on video during Sydney's Gay Mardi Gras.
  • Republicans in Iowa are seeking to amend the state constitution to ban same-sex marriage, which is currently legal in that state.

  • Fallon Fox, the first openly trans* MMA fighter, may face licensing issues, in part related to her trans* status.
  • Pastor Kenneth Miller has been sentenced to twenty-seven months in prison for assisting Lisa Miller (no relation) escape to South America with the her daughter in order to evade a shared custody order with her former partner. However, he has been released from custody pending appeal.
  • A proposal to add gender identity and expression to Nevada hate-crime law may have a chance at passing this legislative session.
  • Finally, if by some chance you haven't seen the adorable children of a gay pediatrician disrupting his pro-marriage testimony, it'll put a smile on your face for sure:
