LA-Lyft-driver.jpgRide sharing company Lyft has arrived in DC and they have a special offer for area Bilerico Project readers. They'll give you $20 to use toward your first few Lyfts. (Each ride costs about $10.)

Here's the short of it: Lyft drivers are locals who have extra space in their car. You use their mobile app to call for a car. Instead of riding in the backseat like with a car service or taxi, you hop in the front and potentially make a new friend. After the ride, you pay through the app (so there's no handling of cash) and rate the driver - and the driver rates you as a passenger.

For the truly flamboyant among us, the service uses a big pink fluffy mustache to distinguish their cars and drivers- as modeled by the LA driver in the photo. After all, no one would want you jumping in a random stranger's car and demanding they take you somewhere! Plus, did I mention it's big and fluffy and pink!!

Download the app (iPhone or Android) and then use the code BILERICO to claim your free $20 credit.

If you sign up and use the service, let us know how it goes. If you're interested in making some cash while ride sharing, you can apply to be a driver.

NOTE: Bilerico Media is not being paid to make this offer. We do not get paid if you use the service or sign up for an account. We're just passing along the freebie rides.
