darren_young_welcomeout.pngWrestling superstar Darren Young caught a TMZ reporter off guard yesterday by publicly -- and seemingly spontaneously -- coming out for the first time in the baggage claim area of Los Angeles International Airport.

The reporter asked Young whether he thought a gay wrestler could be successful within the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment).

Young replied: "Absolutely! Look at me, you know? I'm a WWE superstar and, to be honest with you, I'll tell you right now: I'm gay. And I'm happy, very happy."

The reporter stammered briefly and was admittedly "flabbergasted" by the revelation, but then commended Young for his bravery and thanked him for sharing the news with him.

Watch TMZ's video of the encounter, after the jump.

Young is at least the third WWE wrestler to come out of the closet, after Chris Kanyon and Orlando Jordan.

In addition to Young's casual demeanor in the interview and the reporter's shocked reaction, Young's Twitter bio provides another reason why I think that this coming-out was unplanned. It reads: "As comfortable in the VIP section as he is in the ring, Darren Young's life revolves around three things -- money, women and wrestling."

That's understandable -- it can be a bit of a whirlwind when a person comes out. I'm sure he'll update it eventually. ;)

Welcome out, Darren!
