Former Freedom To Marry staffer Sean Eldridge has announced he is running for Congress. Eldridge, the husband of Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes, has been district shopping for a while but settled on New York's 19th District.
Earlier this year, the New York Times ran a scathing piece detailing Eldridge's machinations to land a congressional seat that more or less accused Eldridge of attempting to buy his way into Congress. The couple purchased a $5 million dollar estate in another district, but when it became obvious Eldridge couldn't take the seat, they moved one a few miles north and bought another home in the 19th for $2 million.
Chris Geidner at Buzzfeed has noticed that one thing stands out for its absence: same-sex marriage (including his own).
Although the cause of marriage equality does get a line in his campaign website bio, neither his job at Freedom to Marry nor his husband are included in his campaign bio.
For his part, Hughes was one of the first retweets of his husband's news Sunday night.
