"I assure you that I work with these people [LGBTs], I sometimes award them with state prizes or decorations for their achievements in various fields. We have absolutely normal relations, and I don't see anything out of the ordinary here."

-- Russian President Vladimir Putin, downplaying the state's crackdown on LGBT people in an interview yesterday with the Associated Press and Russia's state-owned TV Channel 1 television. He also tacitly conceded the well-known historical fact that Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Russia's most famous composer, was a gay man -- even as state censors are scrubbing that information from an upcoming documentary. Go figure.
