rainbow-flag.jpgRemember this shockingly cruel letter -- where a father disowned his newly-out gay son -- that circulated like wildfire on social media last year?

Well, because the Internet is awesome, an incredible letter is making the rounds today that serves as the perfect counterweight to that kind of shocking bigotry and shows that even though things are far from perfect, we're making progress and reaching hearts and minds in the fight for LGBT equality.

In the letter, a grandfather scolds his daughter, who apparently kicked her son (and his grandson) out of the house for being gay. "I'm disappointed in you as a daughter," he writes. You're correct that we have a 'shame in the family,' but [you're] mistaken about what it is."

He continues: "[Your son] was born this way and didn't choose it more than he being left-handed. You, however, have made a choice of being hateful, narrow-minded and backward."

Read the full letter after the jump. It'll bring a smile to your face on this stressful day.
