orthodox_calendar_2014_cover.pngThe 2014 Orthodox Calendar has been released, and believe me, it'll have you on your knees in prayer! It's unclear whether any of the models are actually priests or they're just playing one for the camera, but they're incredibly sexy, so I'm not inclined to ask questions.

According to the calendar's creators, it's intended as a challenge to Orthodox stereotypes as well as homophobia and repression in the Orthodox Church. From the Orthodox Calendar Facebook page:

The primary goal was to demonstrate that Orthodox believers do not all fit the backward, hidebound stereotype portrayed in the press but rather are regular people with passions, preferences, interests and desires.

At the same time, the calendar takes an ironic approach to the Orthodox Church itself, which in recent years has been embroiled in corruption scandals, artist repression, gay sex cover-ups, outrageous behavior and homophobia.

This year's calendar is in support of marriage equality, with the theme "Love is Love, Orthodox or Not!"

More photos (click to embiggen) and a teaser video are after the jump.
