family_equality_council_national_adoption_month.pngNovember is National Adoption Month, so the Family Equality Council is launching a campaign called Allies for Adoption in order to spotlight the beauty of LGBT families and call attention to the discriminatory and cruel barriers that they face when it comes to adoption.

The campaign's website provides an overview of adoption laws in all 50 states (whether each allows joint adoption, second-parent adoption, and step-parent adoption for same-sex couples) as well as the numbers of kids in foster care, children available for adoption, and same-sex couples raising children.

It also contains stories from LGBT families with adopted children from across the United States, and information about the Every Child Deserves a Family Act -- a proposed bill that would eliminate state-level adoption policies that discriminate on the basis of marital status, sexual orientation, and gender identity.

Allies for Adoption also launched its first video today, entitled "The Call," about a same-sex couple waiting for -- and receiving -- a call telling them that their family is about to grow.

It's after the jump, and it's a tear-jerker. Watch, share, and visit the website to learn how you can become an ally for adoption.
