"The manner in which homosexuals have brought the talk of sex to the roads makes people uncomfortable. It's unnatural. Our society doesn't talk about sex. Heterosexuals don't talk about sex. It's a private matter...

"There are some who are comfortable [with their sexuality], but there are many who are not. The latter should realize they can get help. Some of them may even be able to change their orientation."

-- Indira Sharma, professor at Banaras Hindu University and outgoing president of the Indian Psychiatric Society, expressing stunningly retrograde, outdated views on homosexuality in a front-page interview with the Times of India, the world's largest English-language newspaper. Sharma's views are also scientifically inaccurate: every major mainstream organization of medical and mental health professionals agrees that homosexuality is perfectly normal and natural, and that sexual orientation cannot be changed.
