VICE, a global youth media company, is releasing a new documentary about life for Russian LGBT youth under Vladimir Putin's anti-gay crackdown. The film, called Young and Gay in Putin's Russia, is being rolled out on vice.com in five installments this week.
Via press release:
To shed light on the complex situation in Russia and expose state-sanctioned homophobia, VICE reporter Milène Larsson travelled to Moscow to speak to those most affected by the law. Larsson joined gay-rights protesters clashing with police outside of the Sochi Olympic headquarters; interviewed leading gay rights activists, including Katya Samutsevich of Pussy Riot and famed journalist and author Masha Gessen; spoke with various young members of Moscow's LGBT community; and interviewed the legislator behind the new law, as well as one of Putin's spin-doctors.
