"There's... a notion that says, 'If you don't tell me exactly what I want to hear, then you don't love me.' Well, do you think those Olympic coaches told their students, the athletes, exactly what they wanted to hear all the time? No, they told them the truth so that they could live the truth. And I think that that is why our [Catholic] church really needs to continue to speak [against marriage equality]."

-- Larry Silva, Roman Catholic Bishop of Honolulu, comparing the Catholic Church's opposition to marriage equality to the training of Olympic athletes. Bishop Silva delivered the remarks to the boys of Damien Memorial School.
