Last night, the City Council of Green Bay, Wisconsin again failed its LGBT workers, voting to receive and place on file a proposal that would have allowed city employees in a legally registered domestic partnership to purchase spousal health coverage for their same-sex partner. This means no further action will be taken on the measure for the remainder of this session.
This isn't the first time Green Bay has dropped the ball on LGBT workplace fairness: similar proposals were voted down in 2010 and 2011. It looks like legislative bullying of LGBT people remains a favorite pastime of local lawmakers in Titletown.
Local LGBT advocates have vowed to press on and raise the measure again as soon as next month, when a new city council will be seated.
