london-lgbt-choir.jpgLast July, the Parliament of the United Kingdom approved a marriage equality law and Queen Elizabeth II gave her Royal Assent, making the freedom to marry the law of the land in England and Wales.

Same-gender couples begin marrying in those two countries this Saturday, March 29.

To commemorate the momentous occasion and celebrate the blessing of married same-gender love, a London-based LGBT chamber ensemble called The Fourth Choir released a YouTube video performance of composer Ed Rex's setting of "This Marriage."

The text, written by the poet Rumi, is below:

May these vows and this marriage be blessed.
May it be sweet milk, like wine and halvah.
May this marriage offer fruit and shade
like the date palm.
May this marriage be full of laughter,
our every day a day in paradise.
May this marriage be a sign of compassion,
a seal of happiness here and hereafter.
May this marriage have a fair face and a good name,
an omen as welcomes the moon in a clear blue sky.
I am out of words to describe
how spirit mingles in this marriage.

Listen to The Fourth Choir's beautiful performance of "This Marriage" after the jump. (Because I'm a vocal musician and a music nerd, I've also included a recording of my all-time favorite setting of "This Marriage," by composer Eric Whitacre.)

Enjoy -- and to all the same-gender couples in the UK preparing to begin their marriage journeys together this weekend, mazel tov!
