fox-news-blame-the-gays-shooting.jpgDr. Robi Ludwig -- the Fox News contributor who suggested last weekend that the Santa Barbara shooting rampage may have been caused by killer Elliot Rodger's inability to deal with "homosexual impulses" -- has been dropped as a spokesperson for Coldwell Banker Real Estate.

In response to an inquiry on Facebook by LGBT activist Scott Wooledge, the company wrote:

Dr. Robi's comments on the tragedy in Santa Barbara do not represent the opinions of Coldwell Banker. Therefore at this time we feel it best to part ways with her as our lifestyle real estate correspondent.

For her part, Ludwig took to Facebook yesterday to claim that her comments were "misunderstood":

I was misunderstood on @FoxNews this weekend, when I was asked to hypothesize several factors which could have triggered #ElliotRoger's spree killing. I in NO way meant to indicate being a homosexual or having homosexual impulses is a cause for spree killing. My job on @judgejeanine was to asses [sic] several possible triggers for #ElliotRoger and his behavior #peace #forequalrights However, I apologize to all those who felt offended. That was never my intention.

For the record, there have been no credible reports substantiating Ludwig's claim. Rodger himself stated in a disturbing YouTube video that he carried out the shooting because he was angry at women for repeatedly sexually rejecting him in favor of other men.

Ludwig's on-air hypothesis that "homosexual impulses" were actually to blame -- which she arrived at despite the fact that she'd never seen or treated the alleged murderer, by the way -- is nothing but conjecture and plays right into old and dangerous stereotypes that painted gay men as tortured by their sexual urges and prone to madness and homicide.

What do you think? Do you buy Ludwig's explanation? Do you think Coldwell Banker did the right thing by dropping her?
