"Civil partnerships should be enough. Gay marriage breeds homophobia as people are happy enough to tolerate gay people. I don't see the point of crossing the road to pick a fight with people of faith."

-- David Coburn, a Scottish member of the European Parliament from the UK Independence Party and a self-loathing? gay man, expressed his opposition to marriage equality in an interview last week with The Scotsman. Coburn has been in a committed relationship with another man for more than 30 years. Unfortunately for him -- but fortunately for the rest of Scotland's LGBT community -- the country legalized same-gender marriage in February and Queen Elizabeth II assented to the law the following month.
