From tomboy, to Catholic schoolgirl, to frum Jewish housewife, to lesbian feminist mom and—finally!—to queer FtM activist, my life-story reads like a protracted study in contradiction unified only by a quest for personal integrity. Confronted by routine obfuscation, belittling, and demonizing of nonconformity, I challenge misogyny, homophobia, and an overly simplistic conceptualization of gender whenever I can. Past highlights include a profile in Loren Cameron’s “Body Alchemy,” volunteering on San Diego LGBT Center’s speakers bureau, scattered articles and editorials, a (short-lived) column as an out transman in Dublin’s Village Magazine, and a stint at Shakesville.com. Currently, I’m residing in Dublin, in charge of the Speakers Bureau of the Transgender Equality Network Ireland, and working (in my scarce free-time) on a memoir.
My politics flow from my deep sense of connection with people, other life on Planet Earth, and the larger, mysterious, magnificent Universe. My basic guiding principle is, "We're all in this together." To sum up my ethics and politics in a couple of sentences I’d say, "Existence, in and of itself, is filled with heartbreak, horror, and hardship enough from all manner of natural causes--floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, tsunamis, plague, you name it. Our special talent and responsibility as human beings is to support one another--and other creatures—ethically, with kindness, and with compassionate understanding in every way we can. The last thing we need is to add to others' suffering."
Shortened version: "Leave the world a better place than you found it."
