Denied admission to the Foreign Service in 2003, Lorenzo Taylor, with the aid of Lambda Legal, sued Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for discrimination in the workplace. As part of our pioneering documentation of the many faces of HIV/AIDS, we revisit and update the case that spurred the lifting of the ban in February 2008, less than 2 weeks before it went to trial.

Alarmed at the rise of high-risk behavior among HIV+ young gay men, a collaboration of NY Public Health professionals and New York University has produced an innovative web-based campaign telling the story of a young gay man in New York City who meets sex partners on the Internet. In this new approach to HIV/AIDS awareness, we ask the question whether a web-based serial can affect the behavior of the men who watch it.

Voting is a Right, a Civil Right

The LGBT community is the only community that's ever had its fundamental rights put to a vote. To date, twenty-six states have enacted constitutional amendments defining marriage as between a man and a woman.

On Tuesday, November 4, LGBT citizens will again face the possibility of having their civil rights taken away in California, Florida, Arizona, and Arkansas.

At the same time, a contentious Presidential election is prompting anti-gay forces to try and divide Americans along racial, class and sexual identity lines with "wedge" issues - like marriage equality and adoption rights of gays and lesbians.

In this exclusive footage, NAACP Chair Julian Bond and Washington Post writer Jonathan Capehart discuss the common ties of the civil rights and LGBT civil rights movements. Bond speaks of the divisive tactics used in the 2004 election and offers a stirring reminder of all Americans' common humanity.

iPhone users: Click to watch

What hangs in the balance Tuesday, November 4th, is nothing short of whether this nation is going to live up to its founding promise of equality for all.

Every vote counts this Election Day. For that reason, it's crucial that you know your rights and that you exercise them and vote!

Voting Resources

With so much riding on this election, you can be sure that partisan efforts to prevent Americans from voting through deception, fraud, and bullying will be ferocious. In The Life Media encourages you to visit these nonpartisan voter education and protection sites to learn more about and ensure your right to vote.

Julian Bond, Chairman of the NAACP, is a giant in the movement for black civil rights who has been on the front line for equal rights in America for four decades. He is also an outspoken advocate for the rights of America's gays and lesbians. Washington Post editorial writer and Pulitzer Prize winner, Jonathan Capehart, explores Bond's national leadership role in these major social issues of our day, recalling those who were formative in his growth as an activist.

We're very pleased to open our 17th season with a new 30 minute format. This month's episode concludes with Mayor Gavin Newsom of San Francisco presiding at the nuptials of Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon, long-time partners and lesbian activists, who after more than 50 years together could finally say, "We're married." Sadly, Del passed away just over two months later on August 27, and IN THE LIFE is honored to be able to present this season premiere episode "In Memoriam" to this accomplished woman.

Not a joke... A 7.5 million dollar investment by the U.S. Air Force to develop a gay bomb that would transform soldiers - our enemies' soldiers - into lustful homosexuals. Only Margaret can give this story the exposure it deserves... Watch out America!
