I had a letter to the editor published in the Indy Star!

Gays would take marriage seriously

January 6, 2005

So let me see if I got the facts straight from The Star's article "Rockin' representative." Republican Rep. Bruce Borders from Sullivan County is "serious about issues like banning same-sex marriage." However, Borders (who isn't a licensed minister) dresses up like Elvis and marries straight couples at amusement parks while they all ride roller coasters together.

It sure sounds to me like marriage needs saving. But it sounds more like it needs saving from people like Rep. Borders. I know several gay couples who would be more deserving of the rights and privileges marriage could give them than Rep. Border's version of "I Can't Help Falling In Love With You." In the case of my gay friends, they truly can't help whom they fall in love with -- even without the bungee jumps, hot-air balloons or amusement park rides.

--my favorite part of the article is in the sidebar where they have the quote from that idiot. "My mind is full of useless trivia. Now, if I can just understand the (legislative) bills like I do Elvis, I'll be all right." Geez. Maybe he can just remember "Devil in Disguise."
