Fred Phelps - Asshole Extraordinaire

It seems that Fred Phelps and his "church" are up to their old tricks. These religious fanatics are known for protesting anything remotely gay - and some things that aren't even close. This is the same group of misguided hypocrites who protested outside Matthew Shepard's funeral and came to Indiana recently to demonstrate outside a Ft. Wayne play.

This time this group of misguided fools are protesting outside of American GI's funerals. Two members of the Tennessee National Guard who were killed in Iraq were laid to rest yesterday. Guess who crashed the funeral? Yup, Phelps and Co were front and center. What the hell do American GIs and the GLBT community have in common? No, we can't serve openly yet... No, gays and lesbians are still tossed out if caught doing anything remotely queer. No, American occupiers aren't building GLBT community centers in Iraq... What could it be?

Phelps and his band of intolerant gypsies are pushing the message that God is punishing and allowing GIs to die in Iraq because the GIs are "defending a country that harbors gays." Now, I'm not sure if that's supposed to mean that Iraq is harboring gays or America. Surely, American queers are safer than Iraqi gays and lesbians. I'm guessing that you'll find a better gay nightlife in, say, San Fransisco than in Kirkouk...

At least Phelps and Co were well received by the families and townsfolk in Tennessee...

The church members were met with scorn from local residents. They chased the church members cars' down a highway, waving flags and screaming "God bless America."

"My husband is over there, so I'm here to show my support," 41-year-old Connie Ditmore said as she waved and American flag and as tears came to her eyes. "To do this at a funeral is disrespectful of a family, no matter what your beliefs are."

Of course this makes sense.... the country seems to be more accepting (that is if you're a right wing nutjob) of gays... so we (Fred & Co) need to get into the main stream media more. Wow, look at what shit that woman in Texas has stirred up. Let's go to God-fearing redneck country.. where Scopes is still a dirty word... and find some supporters to bash queers. The saddest thing is, this will get huge media play. And let's be honest, the old adage is that all publicity is good publicity. Sign me another grieving relative--

Phelps is only capable of argument by assertion. Fortunately, us everyday folk (us mere attenders of a protest and/or chasers of his ilk down a street)are starting to wise up and speak up! YEAH
