Media narratives are hard things to break

You know, when Pat Robertson endorses a presidential campaign and the candidate giddily accepts that endorsement, said candidate cannot be called "moderate" on gay rights or pro-choice.

But not to the beltway pundits. Here's a segment from Hardball where Chris Matthews tries to figure out what's going on:

Because there just has to be something wrong with Robertson for supporting Rudy! It can't be that Rudy's on the same side as him on every gay rights issue that could come before the president and is effectively anti-choice, he's just sick! It's just the War in Iraq! It has something to do with prostate cancer!

Sure, Rudy doesn't have the most ideologically pure record. Huckabee would definitely be a more logical choice for The 700 Club's host. But Robertson's a has-been trying to stay relevant and he's going to spin this as his endorsement as being a sign that he anointed the next GOP nominee. That's really all there is to it.

Robertson has in effect cut his own throat in terms of his followers...
I have been following this for a whole now.
Starting a few years back Robertson reversed his position on abortion by announcing that China had no
choice in instituting a one child polacy
backed up with mandatory abortion for any succeeding children. Now add his backing of Rudy, you have to ask yourself what is going on here.

I won't vote for Rudy if you put a loaded gun to my head. That freak is poison.

I just love that quote from Pat Robertson about feminists killing their children, practicing witchcraft and becoming lesbians. That's always been a good one! :^)

Killing children? Oh damn, that's the one I forgot...oh wait, I don't have any children.

S'cuze me, my girlfriend is waiting for me with the rest of the coven...
