I'm assuming this was a shot of two early 20th century actors, but please correct me if you have a better idea. If it is theatrical, does anyone have an idea what play this may be from?

I just love it, though hitting people with wooden planks is not exactly what we leather folk mean by "sane, safe, and consensual."

More likely 1875-1890, given the way the photo is shot. They appear to be pretty much classic circus clowns, although there's a possibility they're from some commedia work as well.

Just5 a guess.

Never a boring day at the circus!
