The Southern Poverty Law Center has put out an update to their list of known hate groups operating in the United States and several of the organizations masquerading as "religious charities" have been added to the updated listings. The SPLC monitors and tracks hate groups operating in the United States.

Literalists. Or traditional Christians.

Evelyn Shlatter at SPL said it directly:

"Even as some well-known anti-gay groups like Focus on the Family moderate their views, a hard core of smaller groups, most of them religiously motivated, have continued to pump out demonizing propaganda aimed at homosexuals and other sexual minorities."

I couldn't help thinking of an alternate headline:
"Truth (begins to) win over moralistic smokescreening of completely hateful agenda".
Ok, on second thought it's WAY too wordy. How about "Bigots masquerading as Christians exposed"?

Whatever. It's still good news....

It is so refreshing to see someone speaking Truth to power, after so many decades of bigotry masquerading as religiosity without being challenged.

Kudos to Southern Poverty Law Center for having the courage to tell it like it is. Put a new address on your Salvation Army envelope, and send the SPLC folks a holiday donation!

What? No Westboro 'Baptist' Church?

They're listed under the "General Hate" category now because they've extended their wrath to...just about everybody.

Apparently the WBC is planning a protest at Brandeis University shortly, a grad student from anthro/gender-women's studies is organising a counter protest known as the "Smooch in"

Perfect timing I'll add them to my finals paper on gay marriage. Thanks
