Family Research Council Deserves No Apology

More crocodile tears and shrieks of victimhood are emanating from the deliberate and vicious liars at Family Research Council. Having followed FRC for over a decade, I can state first hand that the anti-gay tirades have always gone well beyond mere statements of religious faith. The organization has knowingly repeated long discredited "science" - much of it tracing back to Paul Cameron's falsified "studies" - with the sole goal of depicting LGBT individuals (especially gay men) as diseased, a threat to children, and promiscuous to a point of being a treat to military and work place good order.

For this and other things that no one would get away with if directed at blacks, Jews or Hispanics, the Southern Poverty Law Center rightly registered FRC as an anti-gay hate group.

Tony Perkins is beside himself and demanding an "apology" from SPLC. Why is he so upset? It's all about money and political influence. FRC has raked in big time money for years through its gay bashing and it has paraded itself as a conservative Christian group, which, of course, in reality it is not.

SPLC has merely had the balls to call FRC out for what it has always been. Perkins is terrified the money spigot may stop and that he may be relegated back to the racists backwaters of Mississippi. Here's a snippet of Perkins' disingenuous shrieking and wailing:

This is a deliberately timed smear campaign by the SPLC. The Left is losing the debate over ideas and the direction of public policy so all that is left for them is character assassination. It's a sad day in America when we can not, with integrity, have a legitimate discussion over policy issues that are being considered by Congress, legislatures, and the courts without resorting to juvenile tactics of name calling.

"Family Research Council will continue to champion marriage and family as the foundation of our society and will not acquiesce to those seeking to silence the Judeo-Christian views held by millions of Americans. We call on the Southern Poverty Law Center to apologize for this slanderous attack and attempted character assassination."

What SPLC really needs to do is quote from more of FRC's bogus anti-gay "experts" like Peter Sprigg and Timothy Dailey, neither of whom have any legitimate credentials to make them experts on sexual orientation -they, of course, claim sexual orientation is a choice - or social sciences. They are both in short frauds and always have been. Here are a few of the "resources" that FRC offers on the issue of homosexuality. If you doubt my analysis, check them out:

  • The Top Ten Myths of Homosexuality by Peter Sprigg (Brochure: Homosexuality in your Child's School)
  • Homosexuality Is Not a Civil Right by Peter Sprigg [Brochure]
  • 'Hate Crime' Laws: A Phony "Crisis" Intended To Suppress Free Speech by Timothy Dailey, Ph.D.
  • The Other Side of Tolerance - How Homosexual Activism Threatens Liberty by Timothy Dailey, Ph.D. [Brochure]
  • Getting It Straight by Timothy Dailey, Ph.D. and Peter Sprigg [Booklet]

As these titles suggest, they are much more than mere statements of allegedly good faith held religious beliefs. Their goal is to depict gays a threat to society and to foster hatred. Here are a couple of the "myths" that Herr Sprigg talks about (never mind that legitimate medical and mental health experts disagree with these views):

Myth No. 2: Sexual orientation can never change. Fact:Thousands of men and women have testified to experiencing a change in their sexual orientation from homosexual to heterosexual. Research confirms that such change does occur--sometimes spontaneously, and sometimes as a result of therapeutic interventions.

Myth No. 5: Homosexuals do not experience a higher level of psychological disorders than heterosexuals. Fact:Homosexuals experience considerably higher levels of mental illness and substance abuse than heterosexuals. A detailed review of the research has shown that "no other group of comparable size in society experiences such intense and widespread pathology.

Myth No. 6: Homosexual conduct is not harmful to one's physical health. Fact: Both because of high-risk behavior patterns, such as sexual promiscuity, and because of the harm to the body from specific sexual acts, homosexuals are at greater risk than heterosexuals for sexually transmitted diseases and other forms of illness and injury.

Myth No. 8: Homosexuals are no more likely to molest children than heterosexuals. Fact: Sexual abuse of boys by adult men is many times more common than consensual sex between adult men, and most of those engaging in such molestation identify themselves as homosexual or bisexual.

I, for one, hope SPLC keeps up the offensive against hate groups like FRC and uses their own vile progaganda to make the case that the hate group label is well deserved.

You have what is likely a typo in the first paragraph, but it's masquerading as a Freudian slip.

I found it!

... with the sole goal of depicting LGBT individuals (especially gay men) as diseased, a threat to children, and promiscuous to a point of being a treat to military and work place good order.

What a difference one missing "h" can make!

The Family Research Council represents traditional Christian beliefs/teachings.

Oh Andrew get over it. Your prejudice is showing.

I hate to defend Andrew, but I'm pretty sure the Bible does say to kill homosexuals (among others).

That isn't considered a correct interpretation, from either a mainstream or a conservative Christian viewpoint. The Levitical verses you're alluding to are part of a Holiness Code that identifies unclean acts rather than immoral ones. Jesus said that Old Testament uncleanness doesn't defile a person. He drew attention to a different form of uncleanness that does defile a person but doesn't involve homosexuality. So those verses, which in any case refer only to a specific form of homosexuality, are not relevant for Christians today.

Well that's terrific news Dan, thank-you.

Can you work on neutralizing that traditional Christian fornication stuff next? Hurry, it's Friday night.

How awful it must be for that brain of yours to be so completely occupied with acrimony and snark.

Religion is amusing. Understanding that creates a real, authentic life. Try it.

I not only tried it, Andrew, I succeeded in having it.

And I can say that a real and authentic life need not involve the level of acrimony and snark you bring to it.

Since authenticity is inherently antithetical to acrimony and snark, since acrimony and snark rely on an absence thereby.

Oh Dan, what nerve you have! To argue that Jesus, whose mission was, if anything, to reform the Jewish religion, would try to rescind the sacred Hebrew hate speech that was already ancient even then! Obviously, even Jesus didn't realize that every damn word in the Bible is true, infallible, and utterly unchangeable! Even the parts about slaughtering neighboring tribes with impunity because they are not Jewish -- which today we would regard in horror as racism, ethnic cleansing, and genocide!

Vene, thank you so much for a reasoned and theological answer/approach to this age old misinformation. Anyone with a hint of research knowledge knows your answer to be factual. Just do any searching in Concordances, Commentarie, References and your statements are well-supported. Again, thank you!

What I demand to know from all you heathen Christians is, "Are you right with Gaia?"

Because if you ain't right with Gaia then rapture yourself off of her and take your polluting carbon footprint with you.

"For this and other things that no one would get away with if directed at blacks, Jews or Hispanics," Can we not play Opression Olympics here? There are plenty of politicians and political groups with known histories of racism or white supremecist ties. Minimizing the very real racism that goes on around you isn't helping. Also, a point worth noting is that Perkins has been known to associate with the Klan. Pretending like racism is dead while discussing a guy who paid big bucks for access to a Klan Grand Wizard's mailing list and who has been known to give speeches to white supremecist groups while standing in front of white power flags? Smooth move there...

Cat, I in no way intended to play "oppression Olympics" but rather wanted to point out the double standards of the MSM which repeatedly will give Perkins a pass on his racism. It drives me to distraction that the MSM will give him a platform and NEVER even footnote is despicable past and affiliations. Likewise, they never call him on the factually untrue anti-gay comments he makes.

To put a finer point onto this, Michael, in some respects, the playbook as regards Perkins and those of his ilk that foment homophobia is really not all that different from their racist tactics.

For example, supposed increased rates of veneral disease among black soldiers was cited as a rationale for not desegregating the armed forces.

It's the exact same tactic used nowadays only the group is "gays" and the disease is AIDS."

I don't have a problem in exposing real similarities between the rationales of today's bigots and yesterday's bigots.

Having been out since 1972, I have heard of, read about or personally experienced hate based discrimination and/or threats. Sadly, in so many cases when Gays attempt to address their harassment something I want to call institutional homophobia comes into play. The harassers turn the tables and make the Gays the problem...threat to children ete.

Individuals who verbalize untrue information need to be held accountable.

we are born, we live, then we die.Any one that claims they know what happens when we die is lieing. any one that belives some God wrote a book, telling people how to live, and die is also not in tounch with reality.

Dear Mr. Perkins,

There are over 25 verses in your buybull that reference "false witness". Exodus provides for your death in Chapter 21,Verse 14 "But if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbour, to slay him with guile; thou shalt take him from mine altar, that he may die." for your perpetual sin of bearing false witness against the LGBT community.
