I post a lot of vintage cheesy men's magazines over on my sex blog and it's interesting to observe how routinely those pubs squeezed references to homosexuality on their covers. I have my own thoughts about it but would love to hear from readers on this one. Why do you think so many 1950s magazines devoted so much copy to homosexuality (or, depending on your POV, the homosexual menace! ooh! aaah! squeee!).

Anyway, really love the self-test in this magazine to find out if you're latent.

"Are you a latent homosexual? Find out now!"

Oh! Oh! PLEASE show me that article. I need to know!! ;-)

Unfortunately, society will always need some boogeyman - some personification for all the paranoia and neurosis that is endemic to human nature. Though slightly less so these days, in the 50's - 60's it was homosexuals and commies.
These days, it seems to be immigrants and Muslims who are taking up the slack that the increasing tolerance for gays has left space for.
