NAACP President Ben Jealous was on Rachel Maddow's show Monday night talking about the historic vote the full NAACP board took over the weekend endorsing marriage rights for same sex couples. For him, it's personal.

But the reaction from Religious Right African Americans was swift. Here is an excerpt from two antigay black religious conservatives issues in a press release May 22.

From Dr. Alveda C. King, founder of King for America and Pastoral Associate for Priests for Life:

"Neither my great-grandfather an NAACP founder, my grandfather Dr. Martin Luther King, Sr. an NAACP leader, my father Rev. A. D. Williams King, nor my uncle Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. embraced the homosexual agenda that the current NAACP is attempting to label as a civil rights agenda. In the 21st Century, the anti-traditional marriage community is in league with the anti-life community, and together with the NAACP and other sympathizers, they are seeking a world where homosexual marriage and abortion will supposedly set the captives free."

From Dr. Day Gardner, founder of the National Black Prolife Union:

"The NAACP organization was founded by blacks who had an understanding and strong faith in God. They were people -- pastors and congregations who knew that the Bible -- which is God's final word -- was indeed very clear on the immorality and wages of homosexuality and abortion. It is appalling that this one time super hero 'civil rights' organization supports the breakdown of traditional marriage and the ruthless killing of our unborn children -- as a civil right."

But what so many LGBT people hear, especially LGBT youth sitting in church pews, is akin to the sermonizing of Pastor Charles Worley of Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden, North Carolina who would like to round up all LGBT people and put them in concentration camps to die. Who is more on the side of the angels - Ben Jealous of the NAACP or Worley, Alveda King and their antigay ilk?

Which side would Jesus pick?
