bigstock-Smiling-Friends-32242655.jpgI've been a bit obsessed lately about finding a best girlfriend. I used to have some really close girlfriends in Iowa, but when I moved to Seattle I was so focused on work and family that I never really made a new bgf*.

This week my partner and I watched the Sundance series "Girls who like boys who like boys". It is currently streaming on Netflix. I was taken aback about how jealous I was of their relationships. Gay guys with best girlfriends are so damn lucky. I don't think I've ever been so jealous of perfect strangers on television as I am right now of those gay guys with their best girlfriends. Seriously.

I'm not exactly sure about how to go about making a new best girlfriend. I work from home, so meeting people at work won't work. I'm done with school so that's not an option. I'm not a drinker, so I'm rarely out at clubs.

So for today's open thread I need some advice.

How did you meet your best girlfriend/gay friend? Ladies, what do you look for in a best gay friend? Guys what makes a good best girlfriend? Why is this kind of relationship so damn special?

And finally, can someone hook a brother up? I need a bfg S.T.A.T.

*I know bgfs are more commonly referred to as "fag hags" but I hate that term, and I know most women do too. So maybe bgf will become a new pop culture term for this special kind of relationship. Fingers crossed!
