As we swing into Fall, I'd like to ask you to stop and take a moment and realize how much content you consume online for free. Those of in the blogosphere are usually doing it for love or small advertising amounts and, as we've seen with all the recent contractions and closings in the LGBT media, the job of "blogger" isn't exactly well paying.

So why do we do it? Some of us have a need to write. Others just want to express their opinions on certain topics. Advocacy is the main goal of others. bilerico-20dollar-donate.jpgWhatever the reason, without your support we can't do our jobs.

I wrote last week that I am starting to hunt for a job because the advertising revenue has been so low lately. Last month's ad revenue was $600. Since Jim had run the site on his own while I went to Rhode Island, Denver, Charlotte, and Las Vegas to cover events for the blog, I gave him half the income. Could you live off of $300 a month? While the right wing supports their media outlets and big donors fund them to the hilt to spread their messaging, progressive citizen journalists don't get that luxury. We're forced to ask our readers for support instead.

As long as y'all are helping out, we're able to keep guiding Bilerico and our contributors to bigger and greater things. Without your support, we're faced with cutbacks in how much time we can afford to spend on the site.

We've raised $1,400 since the beginning of the year to support award winning journalism we give away for free. Can you help us raise an extra $5,000 before the end of the year? Almost 3,000,000 visitors have come to read Bilerico content since January 1. Surely that's not too much to ask.

Several of you have written lately to ask "How can I help?" The answer is, of course, "Support the citizen journalists bringing you the best LGBT movement and politics analysis on the web."

To help you decide how much to donate, we've created a handy graphic guide to help you do a cost/benefit analysis. The infographics are after the break.

Please drop some dollars in our bucket. I can promise you that none of it will go to the Salvation Army. It's a completely different kind of bucket. *grins*

Thanks for all you do to help us keep Bilerico Project up and running.
