Question markUsually my afternoon posts are something light - comedy, music, or entertainment. But today that seems inappropriate.

For those that have yet to hear the news, today a 24 year old gunman entered Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. NBC News reports as of 2:37pm EST:

A teacher's son clad in black and carrying two handguns rampaged through a Connecticut elementary school Friday, killing 18 small children and seven adults, including his mother, in the nation's second-worst school massacre, law enforcement officials said.

The gunman, identified as Adam Lanza, 24, was also found dead at the scene, a federal law enforcement official said. Lanza's mother is a kindergarten teacher at the Newtown school.

It is too early to know all the details, and we may never have all the answers, but we as a country now enter a time of mourning and reflection. How does this happen? How to we prevent it from happening again?

Editor's Note: Based on initial news reports, this post incorrectly listed Ryan Lanza as the man believed responsible for yesterday's shooting. Police officials are now saying that the shooter was in fact Adam Lanza.
