Meet_Me_In_St_Louis_Poster.jpgI may have cried twice while compiling these videos.

I've found it difficult to write anything this weekend thanks to a general feeling that fun is something to put on the back burner at the moment. But we must keep up our spirits - so for this week's sing-off, I chose the most depressing Christmas song ever written, "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" from 1944's Meet Me In St. Louis.

If you have never seen Meet Me In St. Louis, it is the perfect time of year. My partner hates the movie (he finds it boring), but having originated in Missouri myself - I grew up with it, and the scene in which Judy Garland sings this song to her little sister as they come to terms with this being their last Christmas in St. Louis rips me apart every time.

This is one of the most covered Christmas songs of the 20th Century and beyond, so it was difficult to narrow this down. I chose versions that have stuck in my memory - with Judy still being my favorite. Sinatra is a close second, and the Muppets and John Denver remind me of my childhood almost as much as the original. I actually really like the She & Him cover - stubbled upon that today - and Glee is what put the song freshly into my memory.

As usual, let me know who you think did it best. Did I miss your favorite? Post a link in the comments.

Judy Garland - Meet Me In St. Louis (1944)

Frank Sinatra (1957)

Ella Fitzgerald (1960)

John Denver and The Muppets (1979)
