Eila Tiainen, a member of Finland's Parliament, broke down during a debate last week as she spoke about the importance of marriage equality. Tiainen was remembering her gay brother, who committed suicide many years earlier because he didn't feel accepted for who he was.
She said that her little brother felt unable to live in a society that viewed him as unequal, "and I am therefore of the opinion that we do not have the right to prohibit other people's lives."
"All people should have the right to be equal before the law," Tiainen said, "and live according to their own choice."
Fellow MP Outi Alanko-Kahiluoto comforted Tiainen as she cried.
