Garys-Chicaros.jpgYou know the old joke about the "perfect" progressive activist? She's a black lesbian mother without a job who uses a wheelchair to get around. She wouldn't be welcome at Gary's Chicaros restaurant in Enid, Oklahoma, where owner Gary James proudly puts his bigotry on display and the customers, for the most part, seem to eat it up.

After one disabled regular customer, Matt Gard, complained that James barred him from the eatery for using a wheelchair, local media says "a firestorm has erupted" over the prejudices that have always been on display. Even Gard admits he "turned a blind eye" to James' treatment of people of color, he's outraged and has taken his case to social media.*

Strangely enough, many folks seem shocked to discover that James is a proud bigot and has never hidden his disdain for minority groups. The restaurant has been open for over 40 years and suddenly this is news?

"I've been in business 44 years, I think I can spot a freak or a faggot," he told Oklahoma City television station KFOR. "I don't deal with these people walking down the street with no jobs on welfare."

"If I reached over there and slapped the shit out of you, you should be offended. But to call someone a 'chink' or someone call me a bigot, that doesn't bother me."

But wait, there's more...

The restaurant sells a t-shirt (and the staff wear it) that "features derogatory slogans against homosexuals, it has the N-word on the front and threatens violence against Muslims, minorities and democrats."

James said he is proud to wear that shirt.

He said, "I really don't want gays around. Any man that would compromise his own body would compromise anything."
James said, "Well if you work, you own a business, pay your taxes, you're more than welcome here. If you're on welfare, stay at home and spend my money, there."

Strong words in a small town where no one has challenged his business practices.

Well, color me shocked. Who knew?!

*Of course, it goes without saying that Gard should obviously be served at the blatantly racist and homophobic establishment he's patronized for years without a peep until it affected him personally.
