ISIS-homosexuality-execution-march15-1.jpgRadical jihadists in the self-proclaimed Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) executed another man this week whom they'd accused of homosexuality, The Independent reports:

Isis fighters threw a man accused of homosexuality from a building and stoned him to death when he survived the fall, a Syrian monitoring group has claimed.

The man was reportedly thrown from a tower in the Syrian city of al- Tabaqa, west of the group's defacto stronghold of Raqqa, according to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR). The Observatory collects information from activists living in Isis-controlled territories.

The killing reportedly took place in front of a huge crowd of people gathered below the building on Tuesday.

Photographs show a blindfolded man being held by militants at the top of a building. He is then thrown and can be seen lying on the floor in front of a large crowd.

SOHR director Rami Abdurrahman told The Independent that the man, who was between 25 and 30 years old, is believed to have survived the fall but was stoned to death by onlookers in the crowd below.

This week's execution is just the latest in a long line of barbaric murders of allegedly gay men by ISIS militants. (They've also reportedly crucified and stoned people for offenses like theft and adultery.)

Earlier this year, the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) and global women's rights group MADRE pointed out that it's impossible to independently verify ISIS's claims that any of the men they've executed for homosexuality were actually gay, and that the group could have concocted the sodomy charge as a pretext for executing them:

"Without evidentiary basis or independent confirmation, this sweeping allegation could be applied to anyone the Islamic State seeks to discredit--including human rights activists and anyone opposed to the Islamic State. [Falsely] accusing opponents of homosexuality is a tried and true tool used to discredit political adversaries throughout the world."

Whether or not they're actually gay, though, the fact that these men are being publicly executed by ISIS on charges of homosexuality is gravely concerning. They also serve to underscore the terrible danger that LGBT people living under the thumb of ISIS face: last November, IGLHRC and MADRE warned that LGBTs in ISIS-controlled areas are "at imminent risk of death."

Two more photographs of this latest execution (via the Daily Mail and the Independent) are after the jump. WARNING: graphic.
